5 Days in Tromsø, Norway: Ultimate Winter Itinerary for Northern Lights, Whales & New Year Magic

I spent five days in Tromsø over the New Year period, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it felt like stepping into a real-life snow globe. Every morning we woke up to fresh snow outside the window. The sky never fully brightened (because polar night!), and yet everything glowed in this soft blue Arctic light.

Once you’re in town, everything is walkable. For tours (like reindeer feeding or whale watching), we met in central Tromsø and were transported from there.

If you’re planning a winter trip to Tromsø, especially over New Year’s, this guide will help you structure your days properly, manage expectations (hello, polar night), and make the most of your time.
