Burger & Lobster: London’s First Lobster Spice Bag, is it worth it?
I recently found out that Burger & Lobster is serving up the UK’s first-ever Lobster Spice Bag, which caught my attention. I’d never actually tried a spice bag before, so the idea of experiencing it for the first time especially in such a unique, elevated way, made me even more excited to give it a go.
With the celebration of St Patrick’s Day inspiring this limited-edition dish, I headed down to their Leicester Square spot to see if this spice bag twist on an Irish takeaway classic really lived up to the hype.
About Burger & Lobster
Burger & Lobster focus on high-quality lobster and prime beef, and let the ingredients speak for themselves. Rather than trying to offer everything, they’ve honed in on a few key dishes to perfect them, which is a big part of their appeal.
What started as a single restaurant has since grown into a global brand, with multiple locations across London and internationally. Despite this expansion, they’ve managed to stay consistent in what they offer, premium ingredients, bold flavours, and a menu that doesn’t feel overwhelming. There’s a clear identity here, and it hasn’t been diluted as they’ve grown.
I visited their Leicester Square branch, right in the heart of Chinatown at 10 Wardour Street, which is about as central as you can get. It’s an ideal spot whether you’re planning a casual dinner, a date night, or just looking for somewhere reliable to eat after exploring the area.
What is Burger & Lobster known for?
At its core, Burger & Lobster is known for exactly what the name suggests burgers and lobster but it goes a bit deeper than that. The brand has built its identity around sourcing high-quality ingredients, particularly wild-caught lobster flown in from Nova Scotia, Canada, alongside juicy, well-crafted beef burgers that deliver on flavour and consistency. Rather than offering an overwhelming menu, they’ve kept things intentionally simple, focusing on doing a small selection of dishes exceptionally well, which is part of what sets them apart in a busy central London dining scene.
What’s particularly exciting right now, though, is their willingness to experiment while staying true to their core concept. The Lobster Spice Bag is a perfect example of this, a creative twist inspired by the iconic Irish takeaway favourite, reimagined with luxurious seafood. By swapping out the traditional chicken for fried lobster and king prawns, they’ve managed to blend indulgence with nostalgia, turning a late-night classic into something that feels both familiar and completely new.

What is the Experience like at Burger & Lobster?
Walking into the Leicester Square branch, the first thing you notice is the lobster tanks at the front. It’s a subtle reminder that this place takes its seafood seriously.
The atmosphere is lively, especially on a Friday night when we visited. It was busy, but not overwhelmingly so just enough to feel energetic without being chaotic.
What really stood out, though, was the service. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, and a special mention to Jess, who made everything feel smooth and easy. It’s the kind of service that doesn’t feel forced, just warm and helpful, which always makes a difference.
Despite the crowd, we didn’t feel rushed, and the whole experience felt relaxed. You can take your time, enjoy the food, and catch up properly.
What is the Food like at Burger & Lobster?
The food at Burger & Lobster is all about indulgence, bold flavours, and generous portions, and that really comes through in their limited-edition Lobster Spice Bag. It’s genuinely massive, the kind of portion that makes you pause and wonder whether you should have shared it from the start.

The Lobster Spice Bag itself is a creative twist on the classic Irish takeaway favourite, swapping out the usual chicken for a more seafood combination of half a fried lobster and juicy fried king prawns. Everything is tossed together with chunky chips, peppers, onions, and Chinese-style spices, and served alongside a rich curry sauce.
Flavour-wise, it had that familiar comforting mix of savoury, slightly spicy, and saucy goodness, but I did find that over time it leaned a little more on the sweeter side than I expected. It’s still enjoyable, especially at the start, but I couldn’t help thinking that a stronger hit of garlic or a deeper spice profile would have balanced it out even more.

Alongside the spice bag, we also tried the lobster bisque. It was smooth, rich, and deeply comforting, with a well-rounded seafood flavour that wasn’t overpowering. Served with sourdough bread and garlic butter, it worked perfectly as something to dip into between bites of the fried dishes.
We also had the British beef spare ribs, which at first glance looked slightly on the drier side, but that quickly changed once we started eating. The meat was actually tender and juicy, with plenty of flavour coming through from the kimchi hot sauce. The kimchi slaw helped balance the richness, adding a bit of freshness and tang to the dish. It’s a great option if you want to mix things up and not go all-in on seafood.
To round things off, the drinks were surprisingly impressive as well. Both were refreshing, well-balanced, and noticeably larger than expected, which made them feel worth the price.
What is the Price like at Burger & Lobster?
For central London, the pricing feels pretty reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes.
- Lobster Spice Bag: £25
- Starters and sides: around £13–£15
- Drinks: £11
The spice bag in particular offers good value simply because of how much food you get. It’s easily shareable, which brings the cost per person down if you split it.
Overall, it sits in that mid-range dining category, not cheap, but not overly expensive either. You’re paying for quality ingredients and a central location, and it feels justified.
Final Thoughts on Burger & Lobster
The Lobster Spice Bag is a fun, creative addition that brings something new to the table, especially around St Patrick’s Day. It’s indulgent, slightly chaotic in the best way, and definitely memorable.
While it may not be something you’d order every time (especially if you’re not a fan of sweeter spice profiles), it’s absolutely worth trying. With the Lobster Spice Bag only available for four weeks from 17th March, this is definitely one of those “try it before it’s gone” moments.
So the real question is, will you be checking it out?
