Yo-Chi Has Finally Arrived in London: An Australian Slice of Home in Notting Hill
Long awaited by Australians living in London, the viral Australian frozen yoghurt sensation Yo-Chi has officially opened its first UK and European venue in Notting Hill. As an Australian myself, I had to go check it out. The new store is huge, spread across two floors with plenty of upstairs seating, making it the perfect spot for a proper froyo run.
So, let’s get into it and see whether London is ready for a little taste of Australia.
Background About Yo-Chi
For anyone who hasn’t come across Yo-Chi before, it’s an Australian self-serve frozen yoghurt brand that has become a bit of a staple back home. The whole idea is built around letting you create your own dessert, rather than choosing from a fixed menu.
The Notting Hill store marks Yo-Chi’s first venue in the UK and Europe, which makes it a pretty exciting opening for Australians living in London who already know the brand from home. There are also plans for Yo-Chi to open another London location in Clapham soon, so it looks like this could be the beginning of a much bigger UK presence.
One of the things I like about the concept is that it’s not really tied to a particular occasion. You don’t have to be going out for a big dessert or planning a special meal. You can just pop in, make yourself a bowl and enjoy casually.

The Notting Hill location is also open fairly late, until 10pm Sunday to Wednesday and 11pm Thursday to Saturday, which fits nicely with the idea of Yo-Chi becoming a hangout spot rather than simply a dessert stop. It’s a fun alternative if you’re looking for something to do at night without going clubbing or drinking, basically what we’d call a froyo run back in Australia.
There’s also a Yo-Chi app and the Chi Club membership, where you can earn points with your purchases and receive a free treat on your birthday. So, if you think this could become one of your regular London dessert stops, it’s worth looking into.
What Is Yo-Chi Known For?
The main thing Yo-Chi is known for is, of course, its self-serve frozen yoghurt.
Rather than ordering one predetermined flavour, you get to create your own combination. There are nine signature frozen yoghurt flavours to choose from, alongside options such as açaí, and you can swirl multiple flavours together in the same cup.
Then comes the part that can really get out of hand: the toppings.
Yo-Chi has more than 30 toppings to choose from, including fresh fruit, mochi, chocolate treats, crunchy toppings and different sauces. There are also special and limited toppings that change things up, depending on what’s available.
It’s essentially a frozen yoghurt choose-your-own-adventure, and the hardest part is probably knowing when to stop.

What Is the Experience Like at Yo-Chi?
Walking into the Notting Hill store, the first thing you notice is just how big it is. With two floors of space and additional seating upstairs, there’s plenty of room to sit down with your creation rather than feeling like you have to eat it quickly and move on.

The process itself is really easy. You start by choosing your cup size and then head over to the frozen yoghurt machines. You can choose from the available flavours and create your own swirl by combining as many as you want.
This was where I decided to try mango, original, strawberry and matcha all together. It’s a great way to sample a few flavours in one go, especially if you’re visiting for the first time and don’t know what you’ll like.
Once you’ve finished your swirl, you head over to the topping station, which is arguably the most dangerous part for your wallet.
There’s a wide selection of toppings, from daily-cut fresh fruit to mini mochi, chocolate treats and sauces. You can build your bowl however you want, whether you prefer something fresh and fruity or want to turn it into an enormous dessert covered in chocolate, cookie pieces and mochi.
And then you take your creation to be weighed.
This is the moment when you find out whether you showed restraint or completely lost the plot.
We definitely lost the plot.
What Is the Food Like at Yo-Chi?
One of the things Yo-Chi highlights is that its frozen yoghurt is made with real cow’s milk rather than powdered mixes, with live probiotics. The yoghurt is made using fresh milk from Australian cows, which is another little reminder of home for Australians who have been missing some familiar things since moving to London.
There are also options for different dietary preferences, including dairy-free and vegan-friendly choices, as well as gluten-friendly and nut-free options.
For the frozen yoghurt itself, I tried mango, original, strawberry and matcha. Because I ended up blending so many flavours together, I honestly can’t remember exactly how the matcha tasted on its own, but all of the flavours worked nicely together.
If it’s your first time visiting, though, I’d definitely recommend trying the original first. The Signature Tart is the natural, classic frozen yoghurt flavour and gives you a good idea of what Yo-Chi is all about before you start mixing everything together.
The permanent flavour options include Signature Tart, Salted Butterscotch, Classic Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry Cream and açaí. There are also seasonal flavours that can change depending on the availability of local produce, with flavours such as Cinnamon Banana, Coconut, Matcha and Mango appearing on the menu.
Then, of course, there are the toppings.
I stuck with some of my usual favourites: mochi and strawberries. But then I spotted the pistachio knafeh topping, and that was an immediate yes from me. We had to drizzle that over the top at the end.
The topping selection is actually one of the things I’m most excited to go back for because there are so many combinations you could create.
For fresh fruit, you can find options such as strawberries, kiwi fruit, pineapple, lychee, watermelon with fresh mint and bananas in caramel. For mochi and fruit pearls, there are flavours including mango mochi, strawberry mochi, mango fruit pearls, kiwi fruit pearls and strawberry fruit pearls.
If you have more of a sweet tooth, there are toppings like chocolate fudge brownie, chocolate chunk cookie cake, choc chip cookie dough, Oreos, Maltesers, Mini M&Ms, milk chocolate drops, Biscoff spread and dark chocolate pretzels.
There are also crunchy toppings including cornflake crunch, crumble, almonds, honey roasted cashews, zebra coconut and chocolate soil.
And then you have the sauces: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate and raspberry coulis.
The special and limited toppings are where things get particularly interesting, with options such as Candy Kittens, apple pie filling, cherry compote and, my personal favourite, pistachio kataifi sauce.
So yes, there is a lot to choose from and so many combinations to make.

What Is the Price Like at Yo-Chi?
This is probably the most important thing to know before you visit: you pay for your Yo-Chi creation by weight.
It’s around £2.70 per 100 grams, so the final price really depends on how much frozen yoghurt and how many toppings you add.
If you’re sensible and keep things relatively small, you can obviously spend less. But if you’re anything like us and see 30-plus toppings as a personal challenge, you can expect the price to climb pretty quickly.
Our creation came to roughly £15–£16, and that was after loading it up with plenty of frozen yoghurt and toppings.
So, if you’re planning to absolutely max out your cup, I’d budget around £15–£20. It’s worth remembering that you’re not paying a fixed price for the cup itself, the more you add, the heavier it becomes, and the heavier it becomes, the more you pay.
Basically, maybe don’t treat the topping station like an all-you-can-eat buffet unless your wallet is prepared for it.
Final Thoughts about Yo-Chi UK
For Australians in London, Yo-Chi feels like a little slice of home.
The Notting Hill store definitely reminded me of the Yo-Chi experience back in Australia, although this location feels like it has even more frozen yoghurt flavours and an even bigger selection of toppings. Having that familiar self-serve experience in London is a nice feeling, especially when you’ve been away from home for a while.
I also really like that it gives you somewhere casual to go in the evening that doesn’t revolve around drinking. Whether you’re catching up with friends, taking the kids out, looking for a post-dinner dessert or simply craving some froyo, it’s an easy option.
My personal highlights were definitely the pistachio knafeh topping and the mochi. Those were the two things I kept going back to, but there are still so many toppings I haven’t tried yet, so I’ll definitely need another visit.
The only thing I would keep in mind is the price. Because you pay by weight, it can be surprisingly easy to end up with a £15-plus bowl without really noticing. My advice would be to have a rough idea of how much you want to spend before you start swirling and topping, especially if you’re someone who struggles to say no to an extra handful of mochi.
Pro-Tip: Swirl less frozen yoghurt so you have more room for the toppings
And if you’re visiting while the store is still new, be prepared for a queue. Since opening, there have been lines to get inside, so I’d recommend going during an off-peak time if you want to get your froyo a little quicker.
Overall, though, I’m pretty happy to have a little piece of Australia now sitting in Notting Hill. If you’ve been missing Yo-Chi since moving to London, this is definitely one to add to your list.
So, if you’re an Australian in London and have been waiting for your Yo-Chi fix, the wait is officially over. Grab your cup, pick your flavours, swirl away and try not to get too carried away at the frozen yoghurt and topping station.
Although, let’s be honest, half the fun is getting carried away.
Now the only question is: what are you putting in your Yo-Chi?
