1926 Le Soleil Hotel AND Spa Review: Stay in Sliema, Malta
If you’re anything like me, when planning a holiday, you’re looking for that perfect mix of comfort, convenience, and a little touch of luxury without blowing the budget. On my trip to Malta, I found just that in 1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa, located in the peaceful coastal town of Sliema. I stayed for a few nights and honestly didn’t want to leave. Here’s everything you need to know about this hidden gem and why it might just be the perfect base for your next Malta escape.
Location: Peaceful Sliema, Close to Everything
Sliema is a quieter alternative to the busier tourist spots in Malta, but it’s still central enough to get around easily. What I loved most about the location was the proximity to the port, just a short walk, maybe 5 minutes max. That made boarding our Blue Lagoon boat tour incredibly convenient. You’re also close to the ferry terminal, so getting over to Valletta (which is absolutely worth a day trip or two) is super easy.
Check-In Process: Modern Meets Warm Hospitality
After a long travel day, a smooth check-in is everything and this hotel nailed it. The reception staff were friendly, welcoming, and efficient, and within minutes we were informed of the web app that had our room details and code, then off to our room.
What really impressed me, though, was the hotel’s web app system. Almost everything from ordering room service, housekeeping to requesting a taxi is accessible from your phone. It even gives you information about the facilities and things to do nearby. Honestly, I wish more hotels did this. It made things super easy, especially when you don’t feel like picking up the phone or heading down to the lobby for simple requests.
The Room: Clean, Comfy & Surprisingly Spacious
The room was an unexpected delight. Everything was clean when we arrived, and the neutral-toned décor added a relaxing vibe after long days of walking and sightseeing.

The bed was comfy, and there was a little sitting area by the window perfect for your morning coffee or a quick scroll through travel photos. The bathroom was modern, with a rain shower and plenty of counter space for toiletries (a small detail, but one I always appreciate). The Wi-Fi was reliable too, which was a big plus since I was doing some remote work during the trip.
Facilities & Amenities: The Star is La Plage Beach Club
This is where the hotel really shines. When you book a stay, you get free access to the 1926 La Plage Beach Club, which non-guests actually have to pay to enter. And trust me, it’s worth taking full advantage of.

Picture this: infinity pool, rows of plush sunbeds, ocean views, and chilled music playing softly in the background. You can order food and drinks right to your lounger (which we did, more than once), and there’s direct access to the sea if you’re up for a dip off the rocks.
It felt like an exclusive day resort, but without the price tag since it’s included with your stay. It opens from 9:30am to 5:30pm, so it’s perfect for a mid-morning chill or a lazy afternoon after sightseeing.
The hotel also has a rooftop pool (a quieter alternative to the beach club) and a small but functional gym. I didn’t use the gym, but it’s nice to have if you’re feeling energetic after all the pasta and cocktails!
Service: Modern Convenience Meets Maltese Hospitality
The overall service was friendly and efficient. The front desk was helpful and I never had to wait long for assistance. What really made a difference was the web app system, you could message reception ask for extra towels without picking up the phone.
It’s clear that the hotel is designed with today’s traveler in mind, offering a blend of tech-savvy service and genuine human warmth.
Dining: Great Surroundings
The La Plage Bar & Restaurant at the beach club is open from 9:30am to 4:30pm and serves a variety of light meals, cocktails, and snacks. It was perfect for a lazy lunch by the pool.
While the hotel doesn’t have a full restaurant open for dinner, it’s not really a problem because Sliema is packed with good food spots, all within walking distance. From cozy pasta joints to seafood restaurants by the water, you’re spoiled for choice.
Value for Money: Absolutely Worth It
Rooms at 1926 Le Soleil typically range from €95 to €100 per night, which felt like a bargain considering the quality of the rooms, the beach club access, and the overall experience. In many places, you’d pay double just for the pool and beach access alone.
It struck that rare balance of affordable luxury, and that’s something I really value when traveling.
What to Do Around the Area
Sliema is a great base for exploring Malta. Here’s what we did within walking distance:
- Took a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon (only a 5-minute walk to the port)
- Visited Valletta (easy and scenic)
- Walked the Sliema promenade in the evenings – great views, street food, and local energy
- Popped into local shops and cafés, many of which had delicious pastries and espresso
If you’re into history or architecture, Mdina and Marsaxlokk are doable day trips with public transport, taxi or a rental car.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a hotel in Malta that’s stylish but not pretentious, comfortable but not overpriced, and peaceful without being boring, 1926 Le Soleil Hotel & Spa is it. It offered everything I needed: location, comfort, great service, and that little touch of luxury with the beach club access.

Would I stay again? Without a doubt. In fact, I kind of wish I was back there now, sipping away by the pool with the ocean breeze in my hair.
Tips for Future Guests
- Get to La Plage Beach Club early for the best sun beds, especially if you want front-row ocean views.
- Use the web app, it’s super handy and will make your stay feel seamless.
- Bring water shoes if you want to swim directly from the rocks into the sea.
- Don’t miss out on the Valletta ferry, it’s cheap, fast, and offers beautiful views of the harbour.
