One of the most magical experiences you can have in Lapland is staying in an Aurora Cabin—a glass-roofed, cozy retreat that allows you to sleep under the stars and, if you’re lucky, witness the Northern Lights from the comfort of your bed.
I had the incredible opportunity to experience this at the Northern Lights Village in Saariselkä, Finland, and it truly exceeded all my expectations.
Arriving at the Northern Lights Village
As soon as I arrived at the Northern Lights Village, I knew I was in for something special. The village is nestled in the heart of Lapland’s wilderness, surrounded by vast snowy landscapes and dense forests. The atmosphere is peaceful, serene, and completely in tune with nature.
After a warm welcome from the friendly staff, we found our stunning Aurora Cabin—a charming, modern cabin with a transparent roof designed specifically for viewing the Northern Lights and starry skies. The cabins are beautifully furnished, blending traditional Finnish design with a touch of luxury, making them the perfect place to unwind after a day of Arctic adventures.
The Northern Lights Village offers two apps for its guests. One app provides Northern Lights alerts, notifying you when the lights are visible in the area, so you don’t miss the chance to experience them. The other app serves as a service platform for the resort, allowing you to access various features, including using your digital key to unlock the cabin door. This seamless integration of technology enhanced the convenience and comfort during our stay.
The Aurora Cabin Experience
The first thing that struck me about the cabin was its stunning design. The glass ceiling gives you unobstructed views of the Arctic sky, which is perfect for Northern Lights spotting. The interior was cozy and warm, with a plush bed, a small seating area, and a fireplace that added to the cabin’s charm.
As night fell, I lay in bed, gazing up at the starry sky, feeling a sense of awe and wonder. The combination of being in the heart of nature and having the chance to experience such beauty from the comfort of a luxurious cabin was indescribable. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
The Magic of the Northern Lights
While it’s true that the Northern Lights are unpredictable, I was lucky enough to witness them during my stay. Around midnight, I was suddenly woken by a soft glow in the sky. I looked up, and there they were—the Northern Lights, swirling in shades of green and purple, dancing across the sky. It was so magical. The best part? I didn’t have to leave my bed! I could simply lie back, watch the lights, and feel completely immersed in the beauty of nature.
