Flat Iron London: A Must-Visit for Steak Lovers

If youโ€™re a foodie in London or even just passing through, Flat Iron is one of those hidden gems you need to have on your radar. With its stripped-back approach to steak and unbeatable value, itโ€™s quickly become one of my go-to spots in the city. Iโ€™ve already been four times since moving to Londonโ€ฆ and letโ€™s be real โ€” Iโ€™ll be excited to visit again.

Experience

Flat Iron nails the art of simplicity. From the moment you walk in, thereโ€™s this cozy, low-key vibe that instantly makes you feel at ease. No pretentious menus โ€” just friendly staff, warm lighting, and seriously good food.

Also, they give you the cutest steak knife? Itโ€™s a small touch, but it adds a personal, quirky charm to the experience. Simple, yet it stands out!

One of the first things that hooked me? Free popcorn while you view the menu. And the cherry on top? They give you a token for a free ice cream cone at the end of your meal โ€” a sweet, unexpected way to wrap things up.

I was able to easily get a table during off-peak times, but Iโ€™d recommend booking online in advance to guarantee a spot.

Flat Iron Steak (ยฃ14)

The main event โ€” and rightly so. This cut of steak is incredibly tender, thanks to the way itโ€™s butchered and prepared. Cooked medium rare (which is the way to go here), the steak arrives juicy and full of flavour, with a light crust from the sear that adds just the right amount of smokiness. It’s seasoned simply with salt and pepper which lets the natural beefy flavour shine through. Every bite is rich, buttery, and melts in your mouth. Definitely get it with sauce – bรฉarnaise or peppercorn sauce complements without overpowering. The mushroom sauce is nice but I usually like it a bit thicker.

Bone Marrow Mash (ยฃ4.50)

Okay, THIS. This is not your average mash. Itโ€™s creamy, rich, and has that silky texture that feels like a warm hug. The roasted bone marrow adds this deep, savory flavour โ€” kind of smoky, kind of buttery โ€” that takes it to another level. It pairs so beautifully with the steak, it honestly deserves its own fanbase.

Truffle Mac n Cheese (ยฃ5.70)

This oneโ€™s for the comfort food lovers. Think gooey, cheesy mac topped with a golden, crispy bake. But what really sets it apart is the truffle โ€” itโ€™s earthy, fragrant, and makes the whole dish feel a little bit fancy. Itโ€™s rich without being too heavy, and every bite feels like indulgence in the best way.

If youโ€™re going to Flat Iron, honestly just go hungry. The portions arenโ€™t oversized, but the flavours are rich and satisfying. Itโ€™s a place that nails simplicity โ€” just excellent ingredients done really well.

Price

In a city where steak dinners can easily set you back ยฃ40 or more, Flat Iron is a breath of fresh air. For around ยฃ15โ€“ยฃ25 per person, you get a full, satisfying meal that doesnโ€™t compromise on quality. Itโ€™s the kind of spot that proves you donโ€™t have to spend a fortune to eat well in London.

Final Thoughts

Flat Iron has completely won me over. Itโ€™s consistently delicious, and shockingly affordable for the quality you get. Whether you’re a steak lover or just someone hunting for a solid dining experience without the inflated London price tag, this is a place worth coming back to again and again.
