Fanari Santorini: Stunning Views & Authentic Greek Food
Located in the heart of Santorini, Greece, Fanari Restaurant is more than just a place to grab a bite, it’s a perfect mix of delicious Greek food, a laid-back atmosphere, and views that will stop you in your tracks. We visited for an early lunch and were genuinely blown away by the experience. The food was fresh and flavourful, the setting was peaceful, and the overall vibe made it feel like one of those hidden gems you’re glad you found.

If you have the chance, I’d highly recommend going for dinner, you’ll catch the sunset over the caldera, which adds a whole new layer of magic to the meal.
Experience
We had made a reservation in advance, which gave us peace of mind, but the good news is that Fanari is also open to walk-ins. When we arrived just as they opened, we were able to snag one of the best seats in the house, right by the glass, overlooking the cliffs. The view is truly something special. From our table, we could watch the donkeys making their way up and down the steep staircase leading to the port below, a uniquely local scene that made the moment feel even more authentic.

You can also see the cable cars making their slow, scenic journey up and down the hillside, another charming detail that reminds you you’re in one of the most beautiful corners of the world. The restaurant itself is spread out over three levels, giving you plenty of space to enjoy the views without feeling crowded. Each level has its own perspective of the island, so no matter where you sit, you’re in for a treat.
Food
We kept things simple and ordered calamari, a Greek salad, and a coke and honestly, it was one of the best meals we had during our stay. The calamari (€15) was next-level good. It wasn’t heavily battered, which allowed the flavour and texture of the squid to shine through. It was cooked just right: tender on the inside with a light, crispy finish on the outside.

The Greek salad (€12) was everything you’d hope for on a hot summer day, fresh tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, red onions, olives, and a generous slice of feta, all lightly dressed in olive oil and herbs. It was refreshing, full of flavour, and exactly what we needed to balance out the meal. The coke was ice-cold and satisfying, especially under the warm Santorini sun.
Price
Our total bill came to €31, which felt like a steal considering the quality of the food and the unforgettable view. You’re not just paying for a plate of food here, you’re paying for the whole experience. Compared to other tourist spots in Santorini, Fanari strikes a great balance between value and quality. It’s affordable without compromising on what makes a meal special.
Final Thoughts
Fanari is the kind of place that captures what eating out on a Greek island should feel like: relaxed, scenic, and satisfying. It doesn’t try too hard, it lets the view, the food, and the natural charm of Santorini speak for themselves. Whether you’re looking for a casual lunch or a romantic dinner spot, this place definitely delivers!

If you’re heading to Santorini, make sure to stop by Fanari. Grab a table by the glass fence, take in the view, and enjoy a meal that’s both delicious and memorable. Watch the donkeys wander past, wave at the cable cars, and if you time it right, soak in the golden glow of the sunset over the caldera. It’s one of those rare dining experiences where everything just clicks.
