Cha Kee London: Authentic Cha Chaa Teng Hong Kong Food in Fulham
If youโve ever longed for that authentic Hong Kong cafรฉ comfort, the kind that warms your soul with nostalgic flavours, then Cha Kee in Fulham might just be your next food adventure. Tucked away inside a small shopping arcade, this humble spot has been quietly building a cult following (based on the glowing Google reviews) among Londoners who crave proper Hong Kongโstyle cooking.

I visited on a Sunday just after midday, driven by a craving Iโve held onto for two whole years since I visited Hong Kong, baked pork chop rice. What I found was a tiny, bustling, family-run gem serving dishes that capture the true essence of a Hong Kong cha chaan teng.
Background About the Cha Kee London
Cha Kee sits at 347 North End Road, SW6 1NN, but if you simply follow Google Maps and expect an obvious storefront, you might walk past it. The restaurant is actually tucked inside a small shopping mall called Shopping Palace. The entrance isnโt obvious, so keep an eye out for the sign โShopping Palaceโ. Once inside, the vibe immediately changes from Fulham high street bustle to a narrow, slightly old-school shopping arcade that feels strangely reminiscent of hidden Hong Kong food courts.

The restaurant itself is tiny, fewer than ten tables and you can tell right away itโs family-run. The dรฉcor is minimal, functional, and unmistakably Hong Kong, laminated menus, clattering plates, Cantonese chatter from the kitchen, and customers eagerly eyeing tables in hopes that turnover will be fast. Despite being so understated, Cha Kee has made a serious impression on locals. With a 4.9-star rating on Google, itโs clear that locals arenโt just enjoying their meals, theyโre raving about them so I had to check it out.
What Cha Kee London Are Known For
Cha Keeโs reputation is anchored in serving authentic Hong Kongโstyle dishes that are surprisingly hard to find in London. Think home-style plates rather than fusion inventions, baked pork chop rice, silky chicken rice, hearty barbecued pork, and the beloved Hong Kongโstyle French toast. Many reviewers from Google come specifically for the dishes that transport them straight back to Hong Kong.
For me, the biggest draw was the Baked Pork Chop Rice, a cha chaan teng classic I had been searching for since returning from Hong Kong two years ago. Itโs a rare gem to find in London, and the fact that Cha Kee serves it is a big reason why the restaurant has become such a go-to spot for Hong Kongers and food lovers.
What is my Experience like at Cha Kee London?
My visit took place on a Sunday at 1:30pm, prime weekend lunchtime. Because Cha Kee is walk-in only, there was a queue, but the wait system is straightforward, you put your name down and wait for a call.
When I arrived at 1:22pm, three names were already ahead of me. This little detail alone tells you everything about its popularity. I jotted my name down and waited. The wait ended up being around thirty minutes, which is pretty standard here, especially on weekends and given thereโs limited seating.
Once you step inside, the energy is lively but cosy. The tables are tightly spaced, staff are zipping around, and everyone seems deep into their bowls and plates. The service is warm, efficient, and in Hong Kong style, quick, direct, and focused on getting good food to tables without fuss.
What is the Food like at Cha Kee London?
Double Cheese Baked Pork Chop Rice (ยฃ14)
This was the star dish Iโd been waiting for, the reason I made the trip. When it arrived, bubbling under a layer of melted cheese, it had all the right visuals, golden edges, steam rising, thick slices of pork beneath. The flavour was good and satisfying, with tender pork and a great cheese pull. The only thing missing for me was a bit more punch from the tomato sauce. In Hong Kong, the sauce tends to be richer and more layered, and I found myself wishing for more depth and more quantity to soak into the rice. Still, for London, since this is the only time Iโve seen this dish on the menu, Iโm genuinely impressed they offer it at all.

Hainanese Chicken and Honey Roasted Barbecue Pork Rice (ยฃ14)
My friend and I debated for ages between ordering the Hainanese chicken rice or the honey roasted barbecue pork. When the waitress mentioned we could get both on the same plate, the decision suddenly became very easy. What surprised me most was that the Hainanese chicken completely stole the spotlight. It was unbelievably juicy, arguably the juiciest chicken Iโve had in London and paired beautifully with the fragrant garlic shallot sauce. This dish alone is enough reason for me to return.

The barbecue pork was tender and comforting, with a good balance of sweetness and savouriness. But the chicken overshadowed everything and ended up becoming one of my highlights of the entire meal.
Hong Kong Style French Toast (ยฃ8)
This arrived much larger than expected, six thick pieces stacked generously, topped with butter, honey, and condensed milk. It wasnโt overpoweringly sweet, which I loved, but still had enough richness to feel indulgent. Inside, thereโs a subtle layer of peanut butter that adds an extra dimension. Texturally and flavour-wise, this is a must-order. It brings all the nostalgic flavours of Hong Kongโs beloved cafรฉ culture straight to your table.

Cha Kee Lemon Tea (ยฃ4)
This tasted like it came straight from a Hong Kong cha chaan teng. The flavour is punchy and familiar, with that iconic slightly bitter tea base brightened by fresh lemon. My only wish? More ice and for it to be colder. But taste-wise, it hit the mark.
What is the Price like at Cha Kee London?
Considering how much we ordered and how generous the portions were, the price point is worth the value. We shared everything between the two of us, including drinks, and the total came to around ยฃ25 per person. For London and especially for dishes that are so hard to find done well, I found this incredibly affordable. We even ended up taking some leftovers home, which says a lot about portion size.
Final Thoughts about Cha Kee London
Cha Kee is one of those rare places that captures the true essence of Hong Kong dining, cosy, chaotic, comforting, and completely focused on flavour. The environment feels authentic, from the seating setup to the staff who keep the place running with efficiency. And most importantly, the food genuinely lives up to the hype.
The only downside is the wait time, but honestly, with fewer than ten tables and a walk-in-only policy, itโs to be expected. Itโs a place you plan for, show up early for, or wait patiently for because you know the food is worth it.
Iโll definitely be returning, especially for the Hainanese chicken, and Iโm keen to try more dishes on their menu. If youโre looking for a truly authentic Hong Kong cha chaan teng experience in London, Cha Kee should be high on your list. It may be hidden, but itโs absolutely worth finding.
