Mrs Macquarie chair, Sydney

Mrs Macquarie’s chair is a famous historic landmark in the heart of the Sydney CBD with the best scenic viewpoint of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. It’s the perfect spot to capture the iconic Sydney photo, with all of the city’s most recognizable landmarks in one. The site is steeped in history, as the sandstone chair was hand-carved by convicts in 1810 for Governor Macquarie’s wife, Elizabeth, who often came here to admire the harbour’s beauty.

Mrs Macquarie’s chair is easily accessible by public transport and located within the picturesque Royal Botanic Gardens, making it a pleasant walk for visitors exploring the gardens or the foreshore. If you’re driving, there is paid parking available nearby, though arriving early is recommended to secure a spot.

This lookout is one of my favourite places in the Sydney CBD for both its breathtaking views and its serene atmosphere. Whether you’re here for a quiet moment, a leisurely walk, or simply to snap the perfect photo, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair offers an unforgettable experience.

Blue Reserve, Sydney

Blue Reserve is located in the heart of North Sydney. It is the perfect spot for a relaxing picnic with family or friends. The park has stunning views that overlook the front side of the iconic Harbour Bridge, making it the perfect backdrop for a peaceful afternoon and a cute photo spot. The area is also well-connected, with plenty of free street parking usually available and a ferry stop close by, making it easy to visit. It’s a hidden gem in the busy city.

Mary Lookout Reserve, Sydney

Mary Lookout Reserve captures the side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a front-on view of the Sydney Opera House. It has a lot of green space, making it the perfect picnic spot. Just below the green space, there are stairs leading you closer to the water with a closer view of the Sydney landmarks. The path even leads you to Jeffery Street Wharf and if you keep walking further, you’ll just be under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and near Kirrabilli station.

Parking can be quite tight and limited but every time I’ve visited I’ve always managed to find a spot to park. It’s usually free on the street.
