Sushi Like London: Fresh Sushi Near Oxford Circus Worth the Hype
In London, finding truly fresh sushi that doesn’t break the bank can feel like a bit of a treasure hunt. There are plenty of places offering sushi, but very few manage to strike that balance between quality, price, and atmosphere.
Sushi Like is a small sushi bar just a short walk from Oxford Circus station, offering fresh produce, efficient service, and currently has an incredible deal, 50% off all menu items (excluding drinks) for the entire month of July.
With London’s food scene constantly buzzing, I’m always curious about places that draw a crowd. Sushi Like has been getting a lot of attention lately, so I had to check it out. I went with a friend for an early dinner and, while we had to wait a while, what followed was definitely worth it for the value.

The Experience
We arrived just as the restaurant opened at 5 PM, hoping to beat the crowd but there was already a line that formed before it opened and even then, we ended up waiting around 50 minutes. This might sound excessive, but once you see the size of the space and the buzz around the place, it makes sense. Plus, knowing there was a 50% off promotion going on throughout July made the wait feel more justified.
The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted warmly and shown to the counter. Seating is primarily along the bar, which gives you a front-row view of the action behind the counter of the chefs calmly and quickly assembling each hand roll and dish with focus and care. As soon as we sat down, we were handed warm towels to clean our hands, a small but thoughtful detail that made the experience feel a bit more special, especially after a long wait outside.

One of the things I appreciated most was the simplicity of the ordering system. Instead of trying to flag someone down constantly, you’re given a pencil and a paper menu. You simply write down how many of each item you want, and once you’re ready, hand it off to the staff. Within minutes, your order is processed, and the food starts arriving relatively quickly and in a steady flow.
The vibe in the restaurant is low-key and efficient. There’s no over-the-top decor or flashy music, just the hum of conversation and sushi being assembled in front of you. It’s exactly the kind of place you want for a casual but quality meal.
The Food
Between the two of us, we ordered a fair amount of food, and everything was either freshly prepared, well-seasoned, or had a thoughtful twist. Here’s what we tried:
6 Temaki Set (£25)
Each set includes six different hand rolls, and they were all distinct in flavour and texture:

- Amaki (Tuna) – Clean and classic. You can taste the freshness.
- Enoki Mushroom – Earthy and slightly chewy, a great vegetarian option.
- Ebi Tempura (Prawn) – Crisp and juicy with a satisfying bite.
- Toro Taku (Fatty Tuna) – Rich and smooth, paired nicely with the pickled radish.
- Nasu (Japanese Aubergine) – A soft and savoury surprise; comforting and flavourful.
- Unagi (Eel) – Slightly sweet and smoky, one of the highlights of the meal.
Each hand roll was made to order and served individually, which meant they arrived crisp and never soggy, a detail that makes all the difference with temaki.

Seaweed Salad (£3.80)
This wasn’t your standard sesame-drenched seaweed salad. The seaweed used here was more similar to what you’d find in miso soup, light, clean, and slightly chewy, with a subtle flavour.
Miso Soup (£3)
Classic and comforting. Salty, rich in umami, and filled with soft tofu and seaweed. It’s a simple side dish, but it was exactly what we needed after the temaki
Chicken Karaage (£5)
This dish was a pleasant surprise. While the menu states it comes with four pieces, each one was cut into bite-sized pieces, making it feel like a more generous portion. It was crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and served with a slice of lemon and Japanese mayo on the side for dipping. This is a great option if you’re not in the mood for fish or want to mix things up.

Price and Value
Now, let’s talk about value, because that’s where Sushi Like truly stands out. With the July discount, our entire meal came to just £55 for two people. That included everything we ate: two temaki sets, Uni on O-toro (Sea Urchin on Fatty Tuna), miso soup, a seaweed salad, chicken karaage, and drinks.
To put that in perspective, a similar meal elsewhere in central London could easily run double that, especially with this level of freshness. Even without the 50% off, Sushi Like offers great value. The pricing is reasonable, and the portions are satisfying. You won’t leave hungry.
It’s rare to walk out of a restaurant in central London feeling like you got more than what you paid for.
Final Thoughts
Sushi Like is one of those spots that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled on something special. It’s not trying to be flashy or overly trendy, it just focuses on delivering good food, at good prices, in a central location. The service is fast and friendly, the food is thoughtfully prepared, and the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious.
Yes, you may have to wait during busy times, especially while the 50% promotion is running. But once you’re inside, the experience is efficient and satisfying. It’s the kind of place I’d be happy to revisit, either for a casual dinner with friends or a solo sushi fix after work.
If you’re in London this July, I highly recommend stopping by Sushi Like while the 50% discount is still on but be prepared to wait in line. Whether you’re a sushi lover or just looking for a new spot that won’t empty your wallet, this place delivers on all fronts.
Just be prepared to queue and bring a good conversation partner or something to scroll through while you wait. Because once you’re in, the food and experience is pretty worth it for the value.
