Kaliya Santorini: A Memorable Dining Experience by the Caldera

When in Santorini, there’s no shortage of incredible dining options, but Kaliya truly stands out. Our group was looking for a place with a welcoming atmosphere and a menu that would allow us to try a little bit of everything. From the moment we walked in, the vibe at Kaliya was perfect relaxed yet vibrant, with a contemporary twist on Greek fusion cuisine. Known for the restaurant with all the flowers in Fira.

We were lucky enough to sample a good portion of the menu, and every dish left us more impressed than the last. If you’re in Fira and looking for a dinner spot that offers exceptional flavours and an inviting ambiance, Kaliya is definitely worth a visit.

Experience

Walking into Kaliya, you’re immediately greeted by a beautifully decorated entrance filled with an array of flowers, setting the tone for a delightful dining experience. The vibrant, welcoming atmosphere continues inside, where the modern decor blends seamlessly with touches of Greek charm. It’s stylish and relaxed, the kind of place where you instantly feel at home yet surrounded by elegance.

The staff were friendly and efficient, making us feel comfortable right away. Despite being a larger group, service was prompt and never rushed. The space itself was airy and well-lit, with an open kitchen that allowed us to watch the chefs prepare the meal with care and precision. As the evening went on, the ambiance remained perfect—relaxed yet lively, ideal for enjoying great food in a beautiful setting.

As the night grew a little colder, the staff thoughtfully provided blankets to keep us warm, adding a personal touch that made the experience even more enjoyable. (Note, that you’ll need to request for it from the staff)

Food

The menu at Kaliya is a celebration of fresh, high-quality ingredients and expertly crafted dishes. From the smoky baba ghanoush to the indulgent truffle pasta, every bite was full of flavour.

Whether you’re craving something light and refreshing or hearty and rich, there’s something for everyone at Kaliya. With such a diverse menu, we had the opportunity to try a range of dishes, and every single one was delicious. Here’s a breakdown of what we ordered:

Wagyu Tartare
  • Homemade Sourdough Bread (€8) Served with extra virgin olive oil and marinated olives. A perfect start to the meal, the bread was soft with a crispy crust and complemented the olive oil and olives beautifully.
  • Baba Ghanoush (€11) A smoky eggplant dip paired with a tangy tomato tartare. The richness of the eggplant blended perfectly with the freshness of the tomato.
  • Hummus with Truffle Oil (€10) This hummus was divine, the texture smooth like mashed potatoes, with a bold chickpea flavour, enhanced by the luxurious touch of truffle oil.
  • Tyrokauteri (€11) A spicy feta cheese spread that packed a punch and paired wonderfully with the bread.
  • Calamari “Calamarada” style (€27) A beautifully plated dish with tomato-harissa sauce, basil, sourdough breadcrumbs, fennel, and a delicate fennel foam. The bold flavours of the sauce were perfectly balanced by the freshness of the basil and the subtle anise notes from the fennel. Flavours reminded me of spaghetti.
  • Ceviche (€30) A wild fish ceviche from the Aegean Sea, served with citrus juices, coconut sorbet, onion, coriander, and pickled chili oil. This dish was a fresh, zesty delight with an exciting balance of flavours.
  • Wagyu Tartare (€30) A beautifully tender and flavourful tartare topped with cherry tomatoes, parmesan cream, and served with sourdough bread. The rich Wagyu beef was the highlight of this dish.
  • Grilled Octopus (€30) Tender octopus with potato purée, jus, onions, olives, orange, and fennel. This dish was melt-in-your-mouth tender with perfectly balanced flavours.
  • Sweet Potato Den Miso (€24) A dish with fresh Greek black truffle, sunflower seeds, onion jus, and garlic. The sweetness of the potato paired beautifully with the earthy truffle.

Sweet Potato Den Miso
  • Truffle Spaghetti (€33) This was a true standout! Fresh Greek black truffle and parmesan made for a decadent, flavourful pasta that we couldn’t get enough of.
  • Beef Cheeks Ragout (€34) Served with traditional “Hilopitaki” pasta, tomato sauce, shiitake mushrooms, and Gruyère cheese from Los Island. This rich and savuory dish had so many layers of flavour.
  • Wood-Fired Greek Milk-Fed Lamb (€32) Tender lamb risotto with jus. The lamb was perfectly cooked, and the risotto was creamy with a subtle depth of flavour.
  • Potato Purée with Fresh Greek Black Truffle (€14) The smoothest potato purée, elevated by the earthy black truffle. This was a simple yet perfect side dish.
  • Kaliya Fries (€10) Crispy fries topped with fresh Greek black truffle. A must-try side dish!

Price

The prices at Kaliya range from €40 to €50 per person, depending on your order. Considering the quality of the ingredients, the creative dishes, and the impeccable flavours, we found it to be great value for the experience. Since we were with a large group and we ordered a bunch of dishes to share and try, it ended being €150 per person.

Final Thoughts

A few of our favourites included the sweet potato den miso, truffle spaghetti, octopus and sea bass ceviche. The hummus was also unforgettable—the texture was so smooth and rich, and the chickpea flavour was perfectly balanced.

If you’re a fan of fresh, elevated Greek food with a modern twist, Kaliya is an absolute gem. The dishes are beautifully crafted, the atmosphere is fantastic, and you’ll leave feeling fully satisfied.

In the heart of Fira, Kaliya offers a dining experience that’s truly special. From appetisers to mains, every dish is a delight, making it easy to recommend without hesitation.
