Poly || Surry Hills

Poly is located in Surry Hills, Sydney. It is a nice relaxed wine bar and Modern Australian cuisine restaurant. The menu is short making it easier to choose from all the decisions.

Grilled nettle flatbread with whipped sesame $12

Honestly, the flatbread was one of my favourites. The look is entirely different compared to anywhere else, and it tasted terrific. It was nice and soft to eat. The whipped sesame complimented the flatbread well.

Natural rock oyster with preserved lemon and finger lime $5 each

I only started to like oysters recently so at the moment I’m testing the waters of the different types. Tasted quite fresh with the added lemon and lime flavouring. In general, lemon or lime brings out most of the oyster flavour.

Raw kingfish with vinegar and nori $22

Anytime and every time there is kingfish on the menu, I’m bound to order it and it was delicious!

Crispy pig’s ear on a stick $8

Thought it’d be interesting to try to try pig’s ear cooked differently compared to the way the Chinese eat it. Wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce but the overall crispy pigs eat on the stick itself was delicious. It had a crunch and softness from a bit of the meat or fat. I loved it apart from the overpowering sauce.

Pipies and comes with bread $25

Super tasty! I loved how they gave us bread to also enjoy the sauce and not just the pipes. The bread was nicely toasted.

Beef and onion tartare with fermented chilli and lettuce $24

I thought it was too much onion for my liking with the beef tartare. Even though it says chilli, it wasn’t not chilli but added that extra flavouring. It had a moist texture mixed in with the egg together with the beef and onion. It comes with lettuce which lets you wrap the tartare and enjoy a balanced diet with meat and a green vegetable.

Celery and anchovy with kombucha and pecorino $15

It’s the first time seeing a celery dish on a menu. It was refreshing to eat after the beef tartare. Can’t remember tasting much of the anchovy with the celery but a refreshing dish.

Potato dumpling with Kombu dashi and black garlic $24

One of my favourite dishes! The flavouring and texture of the dumpling was so smooth and creamy. I loved the pastry. The black garlic added that extra flavouring goodness.

Bullet Brûlée $15

Cracking open the glazed toffee on top to find smooth chocolate mousse underneath by the taste of it.
