KinKally: Exploring Georgian Cuisine in London

One of the best things about living in London is the endless opportunity to try new cuisines from all over the world. So when I heard about a Georgian restaurant called KinKally, I knew I had to give it a go. Before this, I had never tried Georgian food, and to be honest, I didn’t even know much about it! But that’s the beauty of exploring new flavours—sometimes, you discover something incredible when you least expect it.

Experience

Walking into KinKally, I immediately loved the modern and minimal interior. It had a cozy yet stylish vibe, making it a great spot for both casual dining and special occasions. What caught my eye was the bar seating area for smaller groups, where you could watch the chefs work their magic. It added an interactive and intimate feel to the experience.

Since the portions are on the smaller side, the staff recommended ordering 3-4 dishes per person. At first, I wasn’t sure if that would be enough, but I quickly realized that this style of dining was perfect for sharing and tasting a bit of everything, which is exactly what I love to do!

Food

We ordered quite a few dishes, and here’s my take on each one:

  • Broccoli pkhali, barbary, bergamot, walnuts (£12) – Served with bread, this dish was more of a dip. It had a rich, nutty flavour, and while it wasn’t my top favourite, it was still enjoyable.
  • Baked aubergine, satsebeli, vanilla matsoni (£12) – This dish was a game-changer! The aubergine was unbelievably soft, with a slightly smoky, charred taste that made it irresistible.
  • Pickled kimchi tomatoes, red tkemali, adjika (£9) – Refreshing, but it didn’t stand out much compared to the rest of the dishes.
  • Japanese scallops, bazhe yuzu, soaked grapes (£17) – Light and refreshing, but I felt like it was missing that extra bit of zest to take it to the next level.
  • Beef tartar, kindzmari, black truffle (£16) – One of my absolute favourites! The truffle flavour hit instantly with the first bite, making it super rich and delicious.
  • Braised lamb, pomegranate, miso pumpkin, bone marrow crumble (£24) – The lamb was so tender it just fell apart effortlessly. The miso pumpkin mash paired beautifully with the meat, adding a creamy, umami-packed contrast.
  • Megruli khachapuri, autumn black truffle (£17) – I wasn’t sure what to expect, but wow, I loved this dish! It was like a softer, cheesier version of pizza, and the truffle added a lovely, aromatic depth.

  • Khinkali Wagyu, peppercorn plum sauce, svanetian salt (£14) – A real highlight! These dumplings reminded me of Xiao Long Bao but with a unique Georgian twist. The peppercorn gave it a nice kick, making it super flavourful.
  • Khinkali Langoustines, wasabi, matsoni (£14) – This one was good, but the seafood flavours were quite subtle compared to the Wagyu version.
  • Pumpkin tart, satsivi ice cream, cranberry (£12) – This was a pleasant surprise! It had the creamy texture of a cheesecake, and the ice cream added a refreshing touch.
  • Blueberries, salted caramel, mascarpone (£8) – Simple but delicious! The salted caramel brought everything together, and the blueberries added a nice freshness.

Price

Now, let’s talk about the pricing. At around £50-£60 per person, KinKally is definitely on the pricier side, especially considering the portion sizes are smaller. However, the flavours and quality of the ingredients made it feel like a treat-yourself kind of meal.

Final Thoughts

I didn’t know what to expect going in, but KinKally turned out to be one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in London. The flavours were bold, the dishes were unique, and the whole vibe of the restaurant made it a place I’d definitely come back to. If you’re looking to try something new and exciting, I highly recommend this spot. Just make sure to book in advance—it’s popular for a reason!
